The University of North Carolina women's basketball team suffered back-to-back losses in the Gulf Coast Showcase, falling to South Carolina in the third-place game.

Despite a strong performance from Deja Kelly, who scored a game-high 24 points, the Tar Heels struggled to find consistent offense outside of Kelly and junior college transfer Maria Gakdeng, who contributed 22 points and nine rebounds.

Foul trouble also plagued North Carolina, as Alyssa Ustby was held to just three points and Kayla McPherson was held to just one point. The Tar Heels also struggled from the free throw line, missing nine of their 29 attempts.
