State relies on Keenan Buckland's timely 3-pointer to beat Eastern

MANILA, Philippines - National University (NU) defeated University of the East (UE), 64-61, in the UAAP Season 86 Men's Basketball Championship on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Kean Baclaan had 18 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Bulldogs. He also hit a game-tying three-pointer with 2:29 left in the fourth quarter to help NU take a 62-59 lead.

Jake Figueroa had 12 points, two steals, two rebounds and two free throws to help NU seal the win.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 14 points in the beginning, but fell behind 55-59 with just over five minutes left in the game. However, just as Buckland hit a three-pointer, they managed to cut the lead to two.

Rookie of the Year candidates Precious Momowei and Ethan Galang both failed to win the game for UE.

NU improved its record to 7-1 with the win, while Eastern dropped to 2-6.
