Hayes clarifies remarks about players

Emma Hayes clarified her comments about player relations on Thursday, saying after Chelsea's joyous 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge by Cheap Arsenal Football Shirts that "I don't think it was right to use the term inappropriate".

Hayes faced criticism for labelling the relationships between coaches and players, as well as those between the players themselves, as "inappropriate", which many on social media interpreted as her saying the two scenarios were the same. Chelsea defender Jess Carter was seen "liking" critical posts.

"Yeah, of course I talked to her," Hayes said. "That's all I'm going to say about that. I want everyone to be clear on that: I don't want to create more clickbait messages for you. I think sometimes that happens when we talk about things honestly.

"Of course I'm disappointed about that. Obviously, Jesse and I talked today, as well as other players within the team. The players [know] exactly who I am and they know exactly what my intentions were."

While the manager acknowledged that the choice of terminology was poor and she made herself heard, Hayes expressed frustration that the comments were taken out of context.

"I have to reckon with the fact that I'm supposed to be the most trained, no-clicking coach in the headlines and I was disappointed yesterday," Hayes said. "I didn't think it was right for me to use the term 'inappropriate' for the players. Still, when we talk about these things honestly ... I don't take these things back, but I have no criticism of any player in my dressing room for anything, their professionalism, for what they have given to the club regardless of their position, regardless of who they are in a relationship with [not disputed].

"I've been incredibly supportive of all the players. I've been an advocate for equality and fairness. Unfortunately, I think it's become an issue that's been blown out of proportion unnecessarily. But I can't control social media and I don't wish to. I do want to say, though, that I have an incredible locker room. You could see in everyone's performance tonight that they were extremely focused on the things that matter.

Hayes clarifies remarks about players

"As I constantly tell our players, even if we have disagreements in life, we must not play them out in public. We have to have these conversations amongst ourselves. Because it's an important thing to do in the workplace, and I think everybody understands that."

Hayes also found time to defend the mishap with the socks Cheap Arsenal Women's Soccer Shirts, in which the Gunners were wearing socks Cheap Chelsea Soccer Shirts purchased at a megastore with tape over the logos. "Because of who I am, I'm not going to throw a gearhead under the bus," Hayes said. "He's going to feel terrible tonight. It's a mistake. It's a mistake he made. Regardless, he's the new guy at the position. It happened.

"If it was an away game, we would have had the white and blue, but because it was a home game, we knew three weeks in advance that we were going to have white socks, we're the home team. But because we didn't have the blue ones, I couldn't just say don't worry about it, we'll wear the blue socks because we didn't have them. We're also in a time where, God knows why, everything is getting cut out, the holes, there's a whole process within it all."
